Damascus, (SANA)-
A media source on Wednesday dismissed as untrue the news broadcast by
some media outlets that chemical weapons have been used in the Ghouta
region in Damascus Countryside.
The source stressed that the reports circulated by the TV channels of al-Jazeera, al-Arabiya, Sky News and other channels which are involved in the shedding of Syrian blood and supporting terrorism, are completely baseless, and that the aim behind broadcasting such reports is to distract the UN chemical weapons investigation committee from its mission.
In a telephone call with the Syrian TV, Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said a media and political campaign of lies began today, led by some Arab and foreign channels, accompanied by statements from officials in countries known for their hostile stances towards Syria.
Al-Zoubi noted and that this campaign is timed to coincide with the beginning of the work of the chemical weapons investigation committee which came to Syria upon the invitation of the Syrian government and by an agreement between the UN and Foreign and Expatriates Ministry.
He pointed out that what was reported about the use of chemical weapons on Wednesday morning never took place anywhere in Syria, and while the Armed Forces are carrying out operations against terrorist in several areas, the reports of some media outlets on this matter are illogical, untrue and completely fabricated.
Al-Zoubi said that this campaign of fabrications and allegations comes at a time when large armed groups are falling apart in Damascus Countryside, and that these terrorists have began to cry to each for help on Wednesday morning while others were urging each other to turn themselves in.
"The cries of terrorists and their calls for aid accompany the fact that the Armed Forces are advancing on the ground, and also accompany the fabricated campaign waged by some channels in desperate bid to imbue false morale in the armed terrorist groups," he said, asserting that the support by some Arabs and the so-called Arab League for these allegations is ridiculous, naïve, illogical and non-objective.
The Minister stressed that even if Syria possessed any chemical weapons, it would not use it due to moral reasons and motives, and that the political leadership and the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces are built on moral basis that do not permit the use of such weapons even if it were available.
Al-Zoubi pointed out that the Syrian government called upon the UN to investigate the use of chemical weapons immediately after the incident in Khan al-Assal because Syria has a lot of proof on the use of chemical weapons by terrorists in that area, reaffirming that Syria has nothing to fear from those allegations that seek to affect the Syrian Army's mission to pursue terrorist groups.
